Default workflows, preset by HR, often contain tasks to be completed by the manager in support of preparing for a new hire's arrival.
These tasks may be concentrated earlier in the workflow, however, its not uncommon for manager tasks to be sprinkled in throughout the whole workflow. Manager tasks are often geared towards preparing materials, reviewing procedures and preparing the team for the new hire's start. An important task is usually set before the new hire's start date to assign the new hire a buddy.
Managers are also assigned check-in questions throughout the workflow. These questions provide HR greater insight as well as act as a point of contrast between what the manager thinks and what the other members of the team think at that moment.
